Experimenting with ATF's

So my game has a few texture atlas's that all get loaded via a preloader and an assetmanager class.
I just made my first few ATF's, which are the games main texture atlas's in ATF form.
My question is, how would I go about loading them into the game from the ATF's but through the assetmanager? I looked at how to do this with a standard embedded ATF but I do not want to embed anything in this project.. or do I have to embed an ATF?

Please help.
